Many tablets are available for the treatment of high blood pressure. The most commonly used are enalapril (Renitec®, Amprace®), captopril (Capoten®), felodipine (Plendil®), verapamil (Isoptin®, Cordilox®), nifedipine (Adalat®), and atenolol (Tenormin®, Noten®). These belong to various groups which share modes of action and side effects. Medication potency may be increased if necessary by raising the dosage or by adding another medication from a different group. People requiring such medication must attend a doctor regularly and should not cease medication of their own accord.
