The eye

Knowledge of the several 'golden rules' regarding the eye may on occasions save a person's eyesight:

Blurred vision of recent onset requires urgent medical treatment.
Do not cover or pad eyes unless medically advised to do so.
Seek prompt medical attention if someone presents with one red eye as opposed to two red eyes.
Do not remove large objects (for instance, a nail, piece of wood) from an eye as the entire eye contents will flow out. Seek urgent medical treatment.
Any significant eye problem should be referred to a doctor or eye specialist.
A chemical burn (sprays, liquids, vapour, or smoke in the eyes) requires a continuous fresh water eyewash for 15 to 20 minutes and urgent medical treatment.
