Heart pain ('angina')

Medications which improve the blood supply to assist the treatment of angine. These include:

Glyceryl trinitrate (tablet)

(Anginine®)

Small white tablet.

Placed under the tongue at time of pain.

Note: Tablets lose their effectiveness if exposed to sunlight, heat, or if left in non airtight container. Discard opened containers after three months.
Glyceryl trinitrate (mouth spray)

(Nitrolingual®)

Aerosol spray preparation. Sprayed under the tongue to prevent or treat angina. Has much longer storage life than tablets.
Glyceryl trinitrate (skin patch)

(Nitradisc®,
Transiderm Nitro®)

Adhesive skin patches. Medication enters body through patch. To be changed daily.
Isosorbide dinitrate (tablet)

(Isordil®)

Small pink tablet. Use is as for Anginine® tablet.
